Changes at HSUWA
Friday 10 Jul 2020
We would like to extend our huge thanks to two terrific members this week who are stepping down from their roles on our Committee of Management.
We wish our very best to Cassie Reading who has made a great contribution to our union – including recently joining in our lobbying for the changes to the workers’ compensation laws for health workers in WA. Cassie is staying a member but stepping back from Committee work while she takes on a new role in private practice.
We also wish a happy retirement to our long-standing Treasurer Dave Shaw, pictured with our secretary. As a member since 1983 and our Treasurer for the past 14 years, Dave has volunteered countless hours to the union and assisting members in the workplace. This has included different workplaces across WA Health over the decades. Thank you, Dave, for your outstanding commitment and contribution. All the very best in your retirement.
Finally, last week Gilbert Reid, our Private Sector Lead Organiser, retired after 23 years as a union official with the HSUWA. Gilbert played a significant role in advocating for pay and conditions for our members covered by enterprise agreements under the federal bargaining process. This was no mean feat. We thank Gilbert for his great efforts, that over the years helped lead to important and tangible improvements to the minimum terms and conditions set by awards. These efforts concentrated on our members employed by organisations across private hospitals, pathology, aged care and disability services. We wish you the best as you enjoy your retirement.
