Cuts at SCGH and OPH begin
Thursday 08 May 2014
The HSUWA has been meeting regularly with senior management representing SCGH and OPH regarding the looming cuts to positions and the likely impacts on service levels and the remaining employees.
The union has so far been advised of one position in Podiatry to be axed. Hospital management reasoned that the loss of the Trainee Podiatrist position would have the least impact on service delivery.
We have been advised that decisions are imminent regarding the positions to be cut in OT, Physio and Clerical services. This should be clearer over the next fortnight.
The union has established a workplace committee of representatives and active members for consultation and response to the proposed cuts. We hear that the likely impact of the job reductions is longer waiting lists and lower priority patients missing out on important therapeutic services.
We will continue to update members on the situation, and encourage members to contact us if they have any concerns.
