Fiona Stanley Hospital opening delayed

Tuesday 11 Jun 2013

After intense pressure from the media and the HSUWA, the Health Minister Kim Hames has confirmed the opening date of the Fiona Stanley Hospital has been pushed back.

The hospital was originally supposed to open in April 2014, but the Minister now says the $2 billion project will begin a phased opening from October 2014.

Full services will not be offered until early 2015.

The government is blaming the complexities of the project, largely with the IT system, for the delay.

Your union has been in the media highlighting the apparent lack of workforce planning for the new hospital.

We have been asking the Minister for two years now to provide documents which outline the details of workforce planning, but to date, these have not been provided.

We understand the concern among members over the uncertainty of whether they'll be asked to move to the new hospital.

We have raised this concern both with the Minister personally and through the media, see more here.

We will continue to push Mr Hames to provide us with the workforce plan and end the uncertainty for members.
