Northam Visit

Sunday 22 Jun 2014

With the EBA campaign in full swing it was time for our HSUWA staff to visit some of our members in Northam.

Fuelled by coffee and enthusiasm, Organisers Melissa Wagner and Kate Mueller set off early to update the troops on the progress of the campaign and our plans for further action.

The first stop was to the staff at the Wheatbelt Mental Health Service. They then joined staff at the Aboriginal Health Service for a fundraiser morning tea for The Cancer Council. Melissa and Kate also squeezed in a visit to the Population Health office before their lunchtime meeting at the Northam Regional Hospital.

The concerns of members in Northam mirrored those in metro areas, including fixed-term contracts and resource cuts. All our members were very keen to implement creative work bans of their own and join our fight for equal pay and secure jobs.

Finally, we would like to give special thanks to our departing Representative, Kate Gellard. After 30 years as a union member and enthusiastic representative, she can now enjoy a well-earned retirement. Thank you, Kate, for the work and support you have given the HSUWA and the members at Northam Regional Hospital.
