Regional Health Workers and Communities Deserve More!
Tuesday 17 Aug 2021
This week Health Minister Roger Cook and the Mental Health Minister Stephen Dawson, committed an additional $1.9 billion of health and mental health funding within the 2021-22 State Budget. You can read the announcement regarding regional health commitments here.
The State Government has a responsibility to health workers and the WA community to maintain critical health services within the regions. The recent commitments to update ageing infrastructure, continue Regional Renal Support teams and to cover shortfalls following the transition to the Commonwealth Home Support Program are necessary.
We welcome additional investment into community mental health, drug and alcohol services, however…
We believe regional communities deserve more!
We hear every day about improvements and services that are needed, beyond fundamental requirements and we know there is more to do to improve your working conditions.
The HSUWA believes it is critical for the State Government to commit to ongoing planning, and to implementing the recommendations of the Sustainable Health Review.
To make positive changes within the sector, it takes people joining their union, and working together.
We’ll continue to advocate for more support, extra resources and a fair pay rise for workers across the health sector in regional WA.
