Thursday 07 Nov 2013
MercyCare and St John of God Health Care have jointly announced the purchase of Mercy Hospital in Mount Lawley by St John of God Health Care, securing the future of the hospital.
The sale is now subject to necessary regulatory approvals and endorsement of the Catholic Church before the transfer is complete.
Senior Industrial Organiser of the HSUWA, Gillbert Reid, said in a letter to Union members at Mercy Care that their jobs would be safe.
The Enterprise Agreement 2012 would continue to provide for conditions of employment and wage rates.
Mr Reid also highlighted the fact that the HSUWA has an ongoing working relationship with St John of God Health Care and has EBA's in place at all St John of God Health Care hospitals in Western Australia.
MercyCare CEO, Chris Hall said this sale was a significant factor in ensuring a future for many of Mercy Hospital's staff and the community.
This new deal would also provide St John of God Health Care with the opportunity to develop a significant private specialist rehabilitation service to support patients in private and public hospitals.
