Still going Strong
Wednesday 11 Dec 2019
I have completed 35 years of membership with the Health Services Union of WA (HSUWA) and later becoming a union representative. I have enjoyed being a “go-between” for members with any queries they may have.
Gilbert Reid and Susan L’Herpiniere have played an integral part for our HSUWA members as independent advocates advising us and implementing enterprise agreements for better pay and conditions. Susan has always been very approachable and available to assist members with any queries they may have.
I commenced at Bethesda Hospital (now Bethesda Health Care) in 1979. There have been many changes over the years with building additions and alterations to the wards, theatres, etc. There have been many changes in technology and work practices to keep abreast of. It was a different time back then: when I was pregnant with my youngest son Ben, there was no maternity leave. I worked up until the day before he was born, had a caesarean and was back at work two weeks later. Now Ben has his own son, Michael.
On 25th June 2019 I was presented with 40 years of service award to Bethesda at our annual celebration day by Dr Neale Fong (see photo attached).
