Top 10 Work Bans!

Friday 25 Jul 2014

The HSUWA organised significant industrial action at both Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital on 15 and 17 July, respectively, with members striking in support of equal pay rises and secure employment.

Members across the state have been readying themselves for action. In fact, members at Armadale, Bentley and Fremantle were ready to strike on the 22 and 24 July. However, the Industrial Commission intervened and directed that strikes be suspended and there should be no escalation of industrial action.

This does not affect the working to rule and work bans that many members across the state have implemented since 1 June.

These are the Top 10 work bans that members are applying. Some may be doing one on the list; others may be doing all ten. What are you doing? Do you have any other ideas?

  1. Do not collect any revenue, process or support the processing of any information that will result in recovery of revenue from health insurers or the Federal Government or collect fees for services, equipment, or use of facilities
  2. Defer inputting statistics and the completion/submission of reports
  3. Defer HONOS reporting (mental health professionals)
  4. Do not complete competencies for accreditation
  5. Do not complete Performance Appraisals
  6. Defer training for webPAS
  7. Do not contribute to development of capital works, the transition of services, or reconfiguration of services in any way
  8. Do not participate in committees, respond to requests from the Health Department or Minister for Health
  9. Ban the use of private vehicles for work purposes (use taxis), including while on-call
  10. Ban the use of pagers for two hour blocks during the day (advise your switchboard of emergency cover arrangements)
