Training to become an OSH rep
Wednesday 02 Sep 2015
What do Carers, Security Officers, Lawyers and a Union Officials all have in common? They all want safe and healthy workplace environments.
Unity Training Services run excellent weeklong training courses in becoming the accredited Occupational Safety and Health Representative (OSH Rep) for your workplace.
The training provides a real appreciation of the OSH Rep's role and how OSH empowers workers. Even Worksafe WA has acknowledged that OSH Representatives help workers have a voice in the workplace.
The functions of an OSH Rep are similar to that of a Union Rep. An OSH Rep identifies and investigates safety and health issues in the workplace and advocates for the workers.
Initially they try to resolve issues through consultation, but if this fails they have the statutory power to call in the regulator to investigate potential breaches of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 (OSH Act).
If you want to know about your rights under the OSH Act, how you can become a Safety Rep, and how you can get your employer to pay for your training by a trainer of your choice such as Unity Training, then contact the HSUWA and ask to speak to Charlie Studsor or email cstudsor@hsuwa.com.au.
