Last week, the Radiation Therapists across the GenesisCare sites received emails outlining the proposed allocations of the new Senior Radiation Therapist position for each of those sites. This new position negotiated during the last round of bargaining was a big opportunity for many of us, recognising the skills and expertise we bring to GenesisCare and offer much need career progression within the company.

Whilst we appreciate the application process has commenced, we feel extremely disheartened and insulted that these allocations fall well short of what we understood and believed the intended FTE for each site to be. There should be equal opportunities for Radiation Therapists at each of the GenesisCare sites across WA to apply for this senior position. 

Our delegates and bargaining representatives provided detailed reasoning throughout negotiations on what this position would mean to the workforce and recognise the work many employees are already fulfilling in their daily roles. At GenesisCare, we are lucky enough to have an experienced workforce, many of us mentor new employees, provide technical expertise and step up when a Unit Leader is not around, doing this without recognition or financial compensation.

We deserve this opportunity. It should not matter the location we are working at to have a senior recognised and remunerated for these tasks. This position was never about ‘operational requirements’ to us and should not be to you. It should be about retaining our experience, bringing expertise to the team and providing us the opportunity to grow within the company and assist our Unit Leaders with a designated Senior Radiation Therapist at our worksite.

We request you review your allocations as a matter of urgency and provide a minimum of 1 FTE for each GenesisCare site, with more for the larger locations, to utilise the total of 15 FTE.
