In September, HSUWA was invited to appear before the Education and Health Standing Committee at State Parliament as the committee investigated a potential inquiry into the scope of practice for health professionals in WA.
Jonathan Nugent (HSUWA Vice President and Chief Pharmacist), Julien Graciet (Head of Department Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology), and Naomi McCrae (Secretary HSUWA) appeared before the committee and spoke about why the union believed an inquiry would be a positive step.
On Thursday, 22 October, we were pleased to hear the committee announce that the inquiry would go ahead and the terms of reference and inquiry dates are out. It is called “Inquiry into the extent to which Western Australian public hospital clinicians can work to their full scope of practice”, and the deadline for submissions is 20 December 2026. A huge thank you to Jonathan and Julien for their articulate and clearly convincing testimony back in September!
