Radiation Therapists at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital celebrating their win with HSUWA Secretary Naomi McCrae and Organiser Tim Jager.

Members working as Radiation Therapists at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital have secured 11.4 additional FTE to manage workloads and provide more timely cancer treatment to patients.

Over 12 months, Members worked together and:

  • presented a business case for an additional 9.9 FTE to staff additional machines,
  • recruited colleagues as new members of the HSUWA to build their power in the workplace,
  • all signed a letter to their employer, and;
  • participated in work bans that impacted hospital management, with no impact on patients.

The action taken by Members brought management of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital to the table, and an additional 1.5 FTE was achieved for leave relief, resulting in the total 11.4 FTE uplift for Radiation Therapists. Further, Members achieved an additional 1.2 FTE for administrative staffing and 1.2 FTE for nursing staff.

This wonderful result, which will help reduce wait times for patients’ cancer treatment and better allow staff to manage their work safely, was won because of the strong and united efforts of HSUWA Members.
